Louis Nirenberg

Louis Nirenberg (born 28 February1925) is a Canadian-born mathematician, known for his work on partial differential equations.

He was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He studied as an undergraduate at McGill University, and as a graduate and doctoral student at New York University. He became a professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.

He has received many honours and awards, including the Crafoord Prize, the Bôcher Prize, the
Jeffery-Williams Prize, the Steele Prize, and the National Medal of Science.
