- Edinburgh and Northern Railway
The Edinburgh and Northern Railway was a Scottish railway company. It operated services between
Burntisland , on the northern shore of theFirth of Forth , Perth andTayport , with a junction atLadybank . The company is more often referred to by its later name ofEdinburgh, Perth and Dundee Railway .In combination with ferries between Burntisland and
Granton (forEdinburgh ), and Tayport andBroughty Ferry (forDundee andAberdeen ), it provided a through route from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. It was authorised byAct of Parliament in 1845 and became part of theNorth British Railway in 1849.References
