David McWane (born November 18, 1976) is an American musician, writer, and filmmaker, best known as the lead singer of Boston ska punk band Big D and the Kids Table.[1]

From an early age, music was his avocation, forming and performing in a succession of bands from middle school through high school. As a student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he and 6 friends formed the band Big D and the Kids Table, for which he is the lead vocalist. For the past 12 years, Big D has brought their unique style of Ska punk music to a worldwide audience and developed a wildly devoted fan base. David began his writing career composing lyrics for Big D’s music. But as the band traveled the roads across America, Canada, England, and Eastern and Western Europe, David began to recount his observations and experiences in poetry. For nearly 12 years Big D played in underground clubs, churches, and outdoor venues and David rarely slept in one city for more than one night. Sleeping in underground squats in Slovenia, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Italy, and Spain and couch surfing through the American mid west, David gained an intimate look at the life of a world traveling musician, all of which he recorded. David is a 2000 graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he earned Bachelors degrees in both Music Business, and Education and Music Production and Engineering,

Personal life

He spends a lot of his time writing, all of which can be seen on his website davidmcwane.com. Poetry, short stories, novels, screenplays and lyrics can be found. He is the author of the book The Gypsy Mile, a collection of his poetry with two further books planned for the future.

Being a strong believer in humanitarian and environmental rights, he started a program called 'A First Step'

"A First Step is a program that explores different environmental & humanity organizations. Like you, I became overwhelmed by which organizations to join. It’s confusing. To instinctively know what organization to support and join is hard. A First Step showcases a variety of non-profit organizations to help you decide which one resonates inside you. Our goal is to educate future leaders so that we can develop a more involved mentality and then start living a new pro-environment humanity. So, be inspired, stand up, get proactive and join one of these causes…. a cause that you feel is important. Our slogan at A First Step, is … Let’s start today!"
