Revenge and Remorse (The Guilty Alibi) is the fourth episode of the first season of the tv series "Police Squad!", it was directed by Paul Krasny, written by Nancy Steen and Neil Thompson, and produced by Robert K. Weiss.

Plot

The episode starts in the courthouse, at night. A person (of which only his feet are visible) enters. He moves up to room 112, the room of Judge J. Oliver Maxwell. He replaces the normal gavel with a different gavel. When Judge J. Oliver Maxwell uses it the next day, at a hearing, it explodes. Then we see are hero, Lieutenant Frank Drebin driving in his car, going to the headquarters. When there Ed tells him about the bombing at the courthouse, Judge Maxwell is alright. After deciding what to have for lunch Ed also tells Frank that seven recently released criminals were sent to prison by Judge Maxwell himself, this could be a revenge kill. One of the bad guys is Eddie Casales, a bomber that was arrested 7 years ago. Ed and Frank decide to pay Eddie's ex wife, Lana Casales, a visit. Lana hasn't spoke to her man since the divorce, but he hangs around Club Flamingo a lot, with a chorus girl named Mimi Du Jour. So that evening Frank and Ed go to club flamingo to ask Mimi Du Jour some questions. She tells them that last night, during the courthouse bombing, Eddie was with her, at the movies to see "On The Waterfront". While questioning Mimi, Eddie walks in, his alibi doesn't check out with Mimi's alibi, Frank and Ed leave. The next afternoon Frank goes to the lab, to see what Ted has come up with. Ted tells Frank that the bomb that was used to bomb the courthouse was made from seven common household chemicals, which means that anyone with a high school knowledge of chemistry could have made the bomb. This bomb was not the work of a professional.Frank is a little bit tense, so Ted gives him some decaffeinated coffee, one of his new inventions. Later that day Frank comes back into the lab. In a more creepy than happy mood, but it sure proves that the decaffeinated coffee works. Then we see a car, in the night, the same person who placed the gavel-bomb at the courthouse now places a bomb in a car somewhere. The next morning a man in a black suit steps in to the car and as soon as the man puts his key in the ignition the car explodes.

=Act II: Richard III=

When Frank arrives at the scene of the exploded car Ed and Nordberg are already there, the victim's name was John Symington, a trial lawyer, he used to be an assistant DA.Seven years ago he prosecuted Eddie Casales. However the body hasn't been found yet.Just when they're about to leave they find a matchbox that says: club flamingo, and so they leave to talk with Eddie. When questioning Eddie, Norberg comes in with the lunch, but leaves angry, when done asking questions to Eddie, Frank and Ed realise that they're gonna have to let him go. When Drebin arrives home, he receives a phone call from Mimi Du Jour, she wants him to meet with her right away, since Frank has no idea where the club rightaway was, he suggested to go to the club flamingo, she agreed. When there Mimi tells him that she and Eddie did not go to the movies. But she doesn't know where he did go. She mentions that Eddie left Lana, and not vice versa, and Frank gets a bright idea. Frank goes back to the headquarters and calls Lana Casales and asks her if she needs protection, she rejects, because she is leaving town tonight, Frank mentions that Mimi also didn't want any protection. Later that night Frank and Ed are outside Mimi's house waiting, to make sure nothing happens to her. The same pair of black shoes that placed the first two bombs, are now placing a bomb outside Mimi Du Jours house. To bad the bomber is noticed by Frank and Ed who try to arrest her, as she reveals to be Lana, at the last moment. But she's still able to use the bomb and tries to blow up the town. It reveals that Eddie had already dismantled the bomb before Lana used it. So Frank and Ed are able to arrest her without blowing up the neighborhoods.

Police Squad! Epilogue

At the end of the episode Ed asks Frank what Eddie really did when he said he was going to the movies. He was over at Milwaukee watching a baseball game. But he didn't want to tell anyone about it because crossing over the state line is a parole violation. Frank and Ed decide to not do anything about it.
