John Tong Hon (born Hong Kong, 31 July, 1939) is a bishop of the Catholic Church.cite web|url=http://archives.catholic.org.hk/administrators/tong.htm|title=Bishop Tong, Hon John|publisher=Hong Kong Catholic Diocesan Archives|accessdate=2008-01-31] In his youth, he spent ten years living in Huadu, Guangzhou before returning to Hong Kong.cite news|work=Wen Wei Po|title=湯漢回故里 鄉情尤切切|date=2005-03-30|accessdate=2008-01-31|url=http://paper.wenweipo.com/2005/03/30/HK0503300013.htm|last=Leung|first=Yu|language=Chinese] He earned a master's degree in philosophy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong before going on to doctoral studies at the Pontifical Urbaniana University. He was ordained a priest on 9 December, 1966. In 1992, he became vice-bishop of the Church's Hong Kong Diocese, and was appointed auxiliary bishop of Hong Kong four years later, on 13 September, 1996. He was named to the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples in 2003, after 24 years of service with their Holy Spirit Study Center in Hong Kong. On 30 January 2008, Pope Benedict XVI, raised him to co-adjutor bishop from his former position as the auxiliary bishop of the Hong Kong Diocese. He will take over from Joseph Cardinal Zen upon Zen's retirement.
