WKFN (540 AM, "The Fan") is a radio station broadcasting a sports format. It is an affiliate of ESPN Radio. The station is licensed to Clarksville, Tennessee. The station is currently owned by Saga Communications. Saga Communications also operates WVVR 100.3 Country, WEGI 94.3 Classic Hits, WCVQ 107.9 Adult Contemporary, and WZZP 97.5 FM Active Rock from its main offices in Clarksville.

WKFN-AM 540- “The Fan” had its beginnings as WDXN AM which stood for D) ixie N) etwork, the original owner. The Dixie Network was based in Jackson, Tennessee where it operated WDXI-AM, 5,000 watts at 1310 and WDXI-TV, which is now WBBJ-TV, Channel 7 ABC. They also owned WENK, Union City, TN which I have owned since 1974. They owned WTPR AM/FM, Paris, TN which I also own. WTPR-FM is now WAKQ. Dixie also owned WDXN (now WKFN-AM 540), Clarksville, WDXE, Lawrenceburg and an AM station in Corinth, MS.

The network was operated by Aaron B. Robinson. Upon his death in 1973, the stations were held in trust by a bank in Jackson which was to decide if Aaron Junior should inherit them. The bank deemed that he should not and the stations all began to be sold in 1973.

The Dixie Radio Network had several stations, most of which had call letters which contained the letters W D X: WDXE Lawrenceburg, TN; WDXI Jackson, TN., were sister stations to WDXN-AM. The stations often had the letters "DX" within their call signs, such as WDXN in Clarksville, TN and WDXE in Lawrenceburg, TN.

Until 1986 when deregulation allowed broadcasting past sundown, the station began broadcasting 24 hours a day.

At one time WDXN (now WFKN) was owned by Jack Mayer OF Clarksville, TN who was long time secretary of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters.
