United Relief Foundation
The United Relief Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Humanitarian Aid Organization providing assistance to those affected by disasters whether they be natural or otherwise. The Foundation was formed after hurricane Katrina to fill-in the gaps that were not being attended to by governmental or other aid organizations. The United Relief Foundation provided aid whether it was material items or volunteers for 2 years after hurricane Katrina to those affected. In January 2008 the Foundation expanded it's disaster relief efforts by creating Mobile Disaster Response Units which consists of 20 foot or bigger box trucks each contain portable gas generators, chain saws,
sump pump s and other debris removal equipment. Also included is equipment for serving beverages and food to sustain volunteers and residents in need in the affected disaster areas. Each Mobile Disaster Response Unit also has medical and personal hygiene items as well as comfort items like blankets and pillows etc..During non-disaster times the Foundation has created other programs to provide humanitarian relief to those in need. One initiative called UR a V.I.P. (Very Important Person) Club was created to provide positive life experiences to children who are developmentally delayed, abused or underprivileged. Another key program is the Stock The Shelves initiative that brings public awareness to the needs of food pantries by involving local businesses in the program to be drop-off locations for food and to hold events of some kind to generate public awareness by involving their customers and creating publicity.
