Jack Crompton

Jack Crompton

John "Jack" Crompton (born 18 December 1921 in Manchester) was an English football player. He was a goalkeeper for Manchester United between 1944 and 1956. He was in the United team that won the 1948 FA Cup. Crompton retired in 1956, but remained as goalkeeping coach for many years afterwards and, in May 1981, was interim manager between the dismissal of Dave Sexton and the appointment of Ron Atkinson.

Now aged age|1921|12|18, he is one of the oldest surviving former Manchester United players, and one of the last of surviving remembers of United's successful late 1940s/early 1950s side.

Jack currently resides in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
