The UCSD Price Center is a student center located in the center of
UCSD 's campus, just south ofGeisel Library . The Price Center offers a variety of services, places, and spaces geared to the needs of students including restaurants, the central bookstore, movie theater, and various student organizations.History
The UCSD Price Center opened in 1993 as a replacement to the smaller Student Center (which, though less popular, remains open).

In the Spring of 2003 a Student Referendum was passed to expand the Price Center to nearly double the original size for the start of the 2008 academic year. The students agreed to tax themselves $39 per quarter to pay for the expansion, which costs about $64 million [cite web | url = http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/education/20080513-9999-1m13expand.html | title = San Diego Union Tribune Newspaper Article on Price Center East Expansion|] . The student "tax" gathered roughly $46 million dollars for the expansion, with the remainder coming from various campus accounts.
As of Fall 2008, the expansion is now open and nearly complete. It includes:
* 24-hour study lounge with computer lab and group-study rooms
* commuter student resources (including lockers, commuter kitchen, etc.)

* Santorini Greek Island Food (Greek food)
* Expanded full-service Post Office

* Associated Students offices
* the Cross-Cultural Center and adjoining art space
