Its main competitors are "The Philadelphia Inquirer" across the Delaware River in Pennsylvania, and the "Courier-Post" and "Burlington County Times" in South Jersey. Founded in 1897 as the "Woodbury Daily Times", the present-day GCT has expanded its readership from just Woodbury to cover all of Gloucester County's local news as well as the most important national news. Situated just outside of Philadelphia, the GCT has easy access to both the city and the Jersey shore communities, which include Ocean City, Atlantic City, and Wildwood, among others.
