Relative age dating of the Bald Eagle places it in the
Ordovician period. It rests atop theAxemann Formation (Oa),cite web |url=http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/topogeo/map1/explanation.pdf |title= Explanation of Geologic Units |accessdate=2008-01-26 |format= |work=|publisher=Pennsylvania Geological Survey] or theNittany Formation , for example between Tyrone andWater Street, Pennsylvania , where the Axemann is missing, and theLoysburg Formation of interbedded limestone and dolomite conformably overlies the Bellefonte Formation.cite web |url=http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/topogeo/tbr/stop3.aspx |title=Trenton Black River Carbonates: Stop 3|publisher=Pennsylvania Geological Survey |accessdate=2008-01-27 |format= |work=Trenton and Black River Carbonates in the Union Furnace Area of Blair and Huntingdon Counties, Pennsylvania]Economic Uses
