Grigoriopol ( _ru. Григориóполь) is a
city inTransnistria ,Moldova . It is the seat of the Grigoriopol sub-district of theTransnistria region. The city is located on the left bank of the riverDniester at coord|47|09|N|29|18|E|, in central Transnistria.Along with
Dubăsari , Grigoriopol is one of the only two cities in Transnistria where ethnicMoldovans are a majority.In 1996 and in 2002, the town was the centre of a dispute regarding the attempts of local Moldovan inhabitants to use
Romanian language andlatin script in the Moldovan school, which is against the policy of the government of Transnistria. The Transnistrian press attacked the local authorities that allowed "the fifth column of Moldova in Transnistria" to operate.
