Life in Balance

Life in Balance is an American nationally touring and recording duo, committed to using sacred musical instruments, blended with current technology, to create a high-energy sonic environment. The husband and wife team, comprising Ami and Steve Sciulli, was formed in 1996. Life in Balance has built a strong and supportive national audience through consistent touring and syndicated radio play.

Ami plays the chakra-tuned quartz crystal Singing Bowls and percussion, while Steve plays the enhanced Japanese shakuhachi, bansuri and concert flutes. Guest musicians have included Jim Donovan (Rusted Root), Jamie McMenamy, and Jeff Kowal.

Life in Balance have sold thousands of CD’s, both in the United States and abroad. Their CDs, "deeper", one of the top selling albums (Backroads Music), and "Star" have hit the top lists of the year, and are played on heavy rotation on numerous radio programs, both throughout the country, and abroad. Life in Balance was featured in the "Living Room Concert" series on the NPR program, "ECHOES", as well as many Internet radio stations, like Astreaux World, and Ambient US. The duo has also appeared on both local and national television.

Apart from theater and concert halls, the duo has performed in many diverse venues, such the International New Age Trade Shows (both east and west), Art and Music Festivals throughout the country, The Andy Warhol and Carnegie Museums, Planetarium and Science Center, Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the O'Reilly, Rex and Buskirk-Chumley Theaters, yoga studios, health centers, spas and churches throughout the United States.

Life in Balance has also performed with authors: Deepak Chopra, Robert Thurman, Lee Carroll and Patricia Cote-Robles; and musicians, including Robert Rich, Rusted Root, Dharma Bums, Krishna Das, and The Drepung Gomang Tibetan Monks.

The duo has composed theme and background music for the International Sculptural Society and dance groups, and written music for meditation and healing CDs/DVDs.

Co-Founders

teve Sciulli

Steve built his first synthesizer at the age of 10, and started the flute at 14. He was a founding member of the Celtic rock band "Ploughman’s Lunch", and numerous other regional and national touring musical groups. Steve has composed and recorded music for over thirty major theater, dance, and performance art groups. He also organized numerous musical events though out the Western Pennsylvania region. His input in the regional music and art scene has been well documented and written about, over the last 20 years

A partial list of musicians that Steve has recorded with, includes: Paddy Keenan (Bothy Band), Philip Chevon (The Pogues), Pat Kilbride (The Battlefield Band). Steve has played support shows for such diverse groups as: U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Echo and the Bunnymen, Rusted Root and Ani Difranco.

Ami Sciulli

A student of Reiki and the healing arts since 1987, Ami says: "I feel in resonance with the healing energies when activating the quartz crystal bowls. In so doing, I become a conduit, sonically showering the listeners with the potential for expanded consciousness, enhanced synchronicity and sublime joy. Sounding the quartz crystal bowls with Life in Balance is my work and destiny. Performing with my husband, Steve, is my joy."
