The Austin Rattlers were arguably the most dominating franchise in semi-professional football history. The Rattlers were part of the North American Football League from 2000-2002. During that time, the Rattlers would win two NAFL championships and an AFA National Championship.

In 2000, the Rattlers would finish with a perfect 15-0 record and claim the NAFL Championship by beating the Central Penn Piranha. The Rattlers were also named the American Football Associations 2000 National Champions.

In 2001, The Rattlers would again go 15-0 and claim the "back to back" NAFL Championship by beating the Alabama Renegades. The Rattlers would travel to Mexico and beat a Mexican All Star team, after the 2001 season.

In 2002, A majority of the Rattlers starters and coaches would move up to the new National Indoor Football League team the Austin Knights. Even so, the Rattlers would finish the season 13-2 and made it to the NAFL title game, before losing to the Central Penn Piranha.
