Shade is a young Silverwing bat who was teased by his friends by being the
runt of the colony. But he is determine to prove himself on the long wintermigration to Hibernaculum. After being struck out of the colony's reach he meets a lot of fellowbat s, including Marina.Appearances

In "
Silverwing ", Shade dared to break the law. He was struck out of his colony's reach, he meets a lot of fellow bats including Goth and ThrobbSunwing
In "
Sunwing ", Shade, Marina, Ariel, Chinook, and Frieda look for Shade's father. Shade is captured by humans, who sew an explosive device to his stomach and cart him, along with thousands of other bats (including Goth, who had survived being struck by lightning), far to the south, where the bats are dropped like bombs onto buildings. Shade escapes, only to find out that Goth proclaimed king of the "Vampyrum specterum". Shade, finding out his father was being held captive, thwarts Goth's attempt to resurrect the dark god Cama Zotz by sacrificing 100 hearts, and barely escapes the temple's destruction when the high priest drops the explosive that had been attatched to Goth. At the end of the book, Shade asks Marina to be his mate, to which she agrees.Firewing
In "
Firewing ", Shade goes to help his and Marina's son Griffin after being sucked in the Underworld. While there, he befriends the ghosts of several deceased bats, including aFalse Vampire Bat named Murk, aFlying Fox , and afish-eating bat . He clashes with the ghost of Goth, the antagonsit of the prior books, and Cama Zotz, the evil god of the "Vampyrum spectrum". Ultimately, Shade fails to stop Goth from killing Griffin and stealing his lifeforce, and commits suicide to resurrect him by dropping into the ground. After Griffin and Griffin's deceased friend Luna absorb his life force, Shade follows them through Tree and merges his spirit with his mate and son.External links
