Francesco Monico

Francesco Monico (Venice, 27-02-1968) is an Italian researcher of Technoetic, also artist, mainly engaged in the Italian Academy of Fine Arts reform as founder Head of Media Design and Media Art Department, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano - NABA, as well as Professor of Theory and Method of Mass Media, in the same institution.Monico is also Director of the PhD Program "M-Node" [ [http://www.francescomonico.com/m-node M-node] ] , Planetary Collegium and a Senior Fellow of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology. He is an alumnus of Derrick de Kerckhove and scholar of Roy Ascott, as part of the PhD CAiiA in the Planetary Collegium. After a career in Italian broadcast television, Monico's interest were more focalized on how technology shapes human communication, behaviour and thought. After the specialisation study at the McLuhan Program he went to study with Roy Ascott and he changed his expression channel from video to art, with consideration toward interactive installations, telematic art, BioArt, and specializing in an art-science setting. Monico was deeply influenced by Roy Ascott. Science and art, for Monico, can contribute to expanding global consciousness, but only with the help of alternative systems of knowledge. His thought is based on a combination of science, art, philosophy, and esoteric knowledge in which the artist recognaize the paradoxical nature of knowledge and the contradictions inherent in formal epistemologies, and in his deep speculation his dealing with an ermeneutical approach.
