"Higher" is such a special song to me because there is so much negativity in the world and so many haters. At the end of the day, none of it matters and you can’t let it affect you or you life. This song is so uplifting and inspiring and “I’m only going higher!” The past is the past and you don’t have one moment to look back. You create your life and what happens. I wanted to portray this message and energy in my song and hopefully give people the same feeling.

The music video for "Higher" was made available for purchase on February 5 2008 on iTunes. It premiered on Yahoo! Videos on February 4 2008. The music video was directed by her boyfriend Spencer Pratt and shot with a camcorder. The video received scathing reviews on the Internet, which "humiliated Montag" because the comments were "cruel and hurtful".
