Leif Pettersen (December 23, 1950 – July 30, 2008) was a former receiver who played eight seasons in the Canadian Football League for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was born in Toronto, Ontario. He won the Lew Hayman Trophy in 1979. After retiring, he spent eighteen years as an analyst for the CFL on CTV and Friday Night Football. Pettersen also worked at RBC Sports Professionals & Private Client Group as Director of Business Development, managing banking and investments for athletes, coaches and sports executives. Pettersen was a founding Governor of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame and was appointed as a Governor of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. He died on the evening of July 30, 2008, at the age of 57 of an apparent heart attack in Toronto. Lief died suddenly on July 31, 2008 at his home in Toronto. An autopsy found he did not suffer a heart attack but failed to identify a cause of death. Further tests are pending. Leif is survived by his wife, Lee, and by daughters Katharine (Katie) and Alexandra (Ali.)
