Manchester UnitedHerbert Bamlett (born 1882 in
Gateshead ,England ) was an English football manager and referee. He became the youngest person to ever referee anFA Cup Final when he did so at age 32 in the 1914 decider between Liverpool and Burnley. He started in football management in the same year at Oldham Athletic during the club's halcyon days, before moving on to Wigan Borough (1921-23), Middlesbrough (1923-26), and then to Manchester United in April 1927, after a break. He remained there until 1931.
Paradoxically, in 1909 he had refereed the
FA Cup quarter-final tie between Burnley and his future charges United - calling the game off at 1-0 to United and with only 18 minutes left to play! [ [http://www.btinternet.com/~c.beirne/public/managers.htm#Herbert%20Bamlett Manchester United profile] ]Managerial statistics
