Steve Brodie (
November 21 ,1919 –January 9 ,1992 ) was an American movie and television actor, born John Stevenson inEl Dorado, Kansas .He chose the screen name of "Steve Brodie" (1863-1901) who allegedly jumped off the
Brooklyn Bridge in 1886. Brodie survived the jump and "taking a Brodie" entered the lexicon for bridge jumpers.Most of his film work was from the mid 1940s to the early 1950s working at
MGM ,RKO andRepublic Pictures appearing mostly inwesterns andB-movies . He mainly played supporting roles in films such as thefilm noir classic "Out of the Past " (1947) and the classic crime film "Armored Car Robbery " (1950), although he did have the starring role in "Desperate" (1947). He later appeared withElvis Presley in "Blue Hawaii " (1961) and "Roustabout" (1964). Starting from the mid 1950s he mostly appeared on television, including three episodes of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents ".He was married to actress
Lois Andrews from 1946 to her death in 1968.He died of
cancer inWest Hills, California in 1992.elected films
