The Texarkana Gunslingers are a professional baseball team based in Texarkana, Texas, in the United States. The Gunslingers are a member of the Continental Baseball League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball. From the 2008 season to the present, the Gunslingers have played their home games at George Dobson Field. The Gunslingers are the first minor league baseball team in Texarkana since the 1954.

Some sources have reported that the team was previously known as the Lewisville Lizards [ [http://www.courier-gazette.com/articles/2008/01/31/mckinney_courier-gazette/sports/ksports01.txt Article in the Star Community Newspaper] about the upcoming Blue Thunder season which mentions the move of Lewisville to Texarkana.] , though league records do not reflect such continuity. Although some players moved from Lewisville to Texarkana, the Texarkana team's ownership, organization and management were entirely new.

Note: Texarkana and Corpus Christi played 72 games, as opposed to 73 for the other teams. The series scheduled for July 22-24 in Corpus Christi was postponed due to Hurricane Dolly, and rescheduled for a series of double-headers August 12-14. The August 13 make-up game was also postponed due to rain, then canceled due to a lack of available dates. The game would not have made a difference in standings for either team."

Post-season play

After finishing with the league's second-best record for the season, Texarkana hosted the first round of the playoffs, against third-place Corpus Christi. The teams began a best-of-three series on August 18, 2008.

The Gunslingers won Game One by a score of 4-3. Heavy rain and unplayable field conditions caused Tuesday's game to be rescheduled as a doubleheader for Wednesday. More rain on both days worsened field conditions; league officials called for the double-header to be played on Thursday, but the field was declared unplayable at 9:00 a.m. By a previous league ruling, the series ended under red flag conditions, and Texarkana was declared the winner by virtue of winning the only game played.

The Gunslingers then advanced to the championship series against the Bay Area Toros, on Friday, August 22, 2008. Bay Area won the best-of-three championship in two games, with scores of 2-1 and 9-3.
