Sonar 2087 is a
towed array sonar system forRoyal Navy Type 23 frigate s manufactured by Thales Underwater Systems.Sonar 2087 will replace the current Sonar 2031 towed array. The introduction of this advanced new Sonar will significantly enhance,the Royal Navy's,anti submarine warfare capability. It will provide Type 23 frigates with the ability to hunt the latest submarines at great distances and localise them beyond the range at which they can launch an attack. Sonar 2087 is a Low Frequency Active Sonar (LFAS) and consists of both active and passive sonar arrays. During Exercise ORION 08, HMS "Westminster", using Sonar 2087, conducted successful
