The 4th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment was mustered in on June 15, 1861 for three years' service and was mustered out on July 19, 1864. Recruited into this regiment were three Maine milita units: the Belfast Artillery became Company A, the Brooks Light Infantry, Co. F, and the Belfast City Grays, Co K.
