Yanshuei, Tainan

Yanshuei is an urban township in Tainan County, Taiwan, Republic of China. Frequently, we called it "Salt Water"(Chinese: 鹽水) in Chinese.

History

Yanshuei used to be one of the five most important maritime towns in Taiwan, but it has declined since the harbor was closed in 1900. These days it is best known for the fireworks festival held 15 days after Lunar New Year.

Presently, there are no rail linked to Yanshuei. In the past, however, the Taiwan Sugar Corporation operated passenger services in Yanshuei station, which has been preserved.

*Population: 28,397 people (2005)

Accesses

Yanshuei is easily to reach by National Highway No.1, which through this town and Sinying. And, Yanshuei which is by Provincial Highway No.9.
