Rachel Rosalen

Rachel Rosalen is a Brazilian artist who works in São Paulo and Tokyo.

Rosalen was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Bachelor in Architecture and Urbanism from the Fine Arts University of São Pauloand Master in Multimedia Art from Campinas State University (UNICAMP), Brazil with a Fellowship of CNPq Teacher and researcher at the Department of Communication and Body Arts at the Pontifical Catholic University, São Paulo, Brazil for two years (2002/03) and invited teacher at the Post-Graduation course of Creation of Images and Sounds on the Electronic Media, São Paulo, SENAC (2002/05). On 2003 she gets an Artist in Residence Fellowship from Japan Foundation at N&A Nanjo and Associates Curatorial Office - curator Fumio Nanjo Nanjo (MORI ART MUSEUM), Tokyo, Japan. Since then, currently lives and works in São Paulo and Tokyo.

On 2006 wins a New Media Prize of the Government of State of São Paulo (Prêmio de Apoio a Cultura de São Paulo), São Paulo, Brazil and on 2007 2007 Sérgio Motta Art and Technology Foundation Prize, São Paulo, Brazil. On 2007 she was an invited artist for a residence at Warteck PP, Basel, Swiss.

In recent years, the artist Rachel Rosalen has followed a unique path in Brazilian electronic art production. Her work ranges from works in video, performances, telematics, interactive video installations, live video, projects based on databases and programming - often assembling specific interfaces for each work, Rosalen makes use of these devices to discuss a broader project dealing with relationships between life and death, war, violence, the media, eroticism and the construction of the Body in the contemporary metropolis. With an individual and rather nomadic trajectory, she often invites other artists, programmers, or electronic engineers to collaborate in her projects.
