Order of Whiteoak

The Order of WhiteOak is a Celtic Reconstructionist Neo-druidism group that had its beginnings in a discussion list on Druid ethics in initiated by author Ellen Evert Hopman in 1996. The Order was officially created during Samhain 1997. [ [http://druidnetwork.org/directory/groupsinternational.html#whiteoak The Druid Network] ] The Order of WhiteOak produce a free quarterly online magazine called EOLAS (Irish for "knowledge" or "wisdom") which features articles and contributions from individuals such as author Emma Restall Orr and Gaelic harpist Ann Heymann.

Beliefs

The Order of the White Oak is a modern Druidic order bases its beliefs and practices on what is known of the original faith and practices of the Pagan Celts. Utilising historical research and poetic inspiration they seek to build a viable tradition. Source material for this research includes such names as Miranda Green, Alwyn and Brinley Rees, and Barry Cunliffe.

They define their primary focus as:

# discussion with our peers the lessons of ancient and recent history
# the study of the Brehon Laws of Ireland, the Celtic Mythological Cycles, the Wisdom Texts and other ancient sources
# seeking ways to apply this information to contemporary Druidic practice
