James Shannon (academic)

James Shannon (1799-1859) was an Irish American academic, evangelist and second President of the University of Missouri [cite web | url=http://muarchives.missouri.edu/c-rg1-s1.html | title=biographical note | work=University of Missouri archives | accessdate=2008-01-19] He was born in Monaghan County, Ireland and educated at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. [cite web | url=http://www.therestorationmovement.com/shannon.htm | title=Biographical Sketch On The Life of Hames Shannon | work=The Restoration Movement | accessdate=2008-01-19] Shannon was also a co-founder of Columbia College and the first president of Culver-Stockton College. He is buried at the Columbia Cemetery in Columbia, Missouri.
