Hampden Park railway station serves Hampden Park in East Sussex. It is on the East Coastway Line, and train services are provided by Southern. It was originally called "Willingdon Halt".

The station is located on what was originally termed the "Eastbourne Branch" ["Handbook of Stations ... on the Railways of Great Britain and Ireland" British Transport Commission (Railway Clearing House) 1956] . There was a rarely-used triangular junction between Polegate and the now-closed "Stone Cross" which allowed trains to bypass the Branch; the track has now been lifted. Most services along the coast have invariably served Eastbourne; being a terminus it is inevitable that trains pass through Hampden Park station twice in whichever direction they are travelling - once on the way to Eastbourne, and once on the way out of Eastbourne, although not all trains stop on both occasions.

Because of this arrangement, connections are advertised to allow passengers on the Victoria-Eastbourne service to pick up the stopping service to Hastings. This connection just works, in both directions. Passengers trying to make the more obvious connection at Eastbourne would just miss it by one minute. Passengers on the London services are also subject to confusion as both platforms are shorter than 12 coaches, although some trains from London divide at Haywards Heath. Local trains, which are shorter, are unaffected.

Services

The typical off-peak service is:

*3tph (trains per hour) to Hastings (2 direct and 1 via Eastbourne)
*2tph to Brighton (1 direct and 1 via Eastbourne)
*2tph to London Victoria (1 direct and 1 via Eastbourne)
