Carleton—Mississippi Mills (provincial electoral district) . For the defunct provincial electoral district, seeLanark—Carleton (provincial electoral district) ."Carleton—Mississippi Mills (formerly known as Lanark—Carleton and Carleton—Lanark) is a federal electoral district in
Ontario ,Canada , that has been represented in theCanadian House of Commons since 1988.This riding was created in 1987 from parts of
Lanark—Renfrew—Carleton andNepean—Carleton ridings. In 2003, it was renamed "Carleton—Lanark". The name was changed to the current name as of September 1, 2004. The town of Mississippi Mills vehemently opposed the decision to separate Lanark County into two separate electoral districts. The town remains further disquieted with their new Member of Parliament Gordon O'Connor's subsequent decision to change the name of the riding replacing 'Lanark', the county with which the residents share a strong community of interest, with 'Mississippi Mills' which bears little colloquial meaning having only existed since 1998. In 1996, the riding was redefined to exclude Township of Goulbourn.
It now consists of the former Townships of Ramsay and Pakenham in the Town of Mississippi Mills, the former Townships of Goulbourn and West Carleton, and the former city of Kanata all in the city of
Ottawa .Gordon O'Connor of theConservative Party of Canada has been the riding'sMember of Parliament since 2004. He is currently the Minister of National Revenue.Federal election results
