Lin Fanghua (Chinese: 林芳华,
Pinyin : Lín Fānghuá,Surname : Lin), also sometimes written as "Fang-Hua Lin", 1959-, is a Chinese-born Americanmathematician . He's currently a professor at theCourant Institute of Mathematical Sciences . Born in 1959 in
Zhenhai County (now Zhenhai District),Ningbo ,Zhejiang Province , he graduated from the Department of Mathematics ofZhejiang University in 1981. Lin went toUSA to pursue his further study in the Department of Mathematics,University of Minnesota , and obtained hisPhD in 1985. From Sept. 1985 to Aug. 1988, he was an instructor at Courant Institute,New York University . Then he went to theUniversity of Chicago , becoming a full-time professor there from Aug. 1988 till Aug.In September 1989, he started his professorship at New York University. He was then awarded the Silver Professorship, Department of Mathematics, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University.
Lin did important work in
