He competed at the 1924, 1928, 1932 and1936 Summer Olympics , winning a total of four Olympic gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal. In the1928 Summer Olympics inAmsterdam he won three gold medals and one bronze medal. In 1932 he obtained a silver medal, and in 1936 one individual gold medal a silver medal with the Swiss team.
