Military historiography

Military historiography

Military historiography is the study of the history of the military events. For centuries, Western historiography mainly addressed military history, politics, and ecclesiastical history.

In recent times, military history has expanded to include examinations of social history, greater emphasis on the acts of individuals of low rank, and more detailed attention paid to items previously considered trivial, such as details of uniform, insignia or even low-level tactics. Historiographers note all these trends and examine how military historians have changed their practices in recent decades.
