Born in
Lochgilphead ,Argyll and Bute , MacIntyre moved to Fort William when he was ten years old. He started cycling at the relatively late age of 18, and won the Tour of the North inNorthern Ireland at the age of 23. He representedScotland at the2002 Commonwealth Games inManchester . He was the first Scot to win the British Circuit race time trial championship, in 2006, and won the British 25-mile time trial twice, in 2006 and 2007.Death

15 January 2008 , MacIntyre was involved in a collision with a van at Carrs Corner on theA82 road in Fort William. He wasairlift ed to hospital, but died of his injuries on the way.MacIntyre was married and had twin daughters, who were eight years old at the time of his death.
