International Puzzle Party
- International Puzzle Party
The International Puzzle Party (commonly known as "IPP") is an annual meeting of mechanical puzzle enthusiasts to discuss, share, and trade mechanical puzzles. The IPP was founded by Jerry Slocum who hosted the first meeting on April 1 1978 in the living room of his home in Beverly Hills, California. The IPP has since evolved into a by-invitation-only event attended by over one hundred enthusiasts each year. The location of the IPPs rotate between North America, Europe, and Japan.
IPPs feature a puzzle exchange between qualified registrants in which attendees bring original, high-quality and non-commercialized puzzles for trading. Since 2001, IPPs have also included a puzzle design competition, known since 2005 as the Nob Yoshigahara Puzzle Design Competition, after renowned puzzler Nob Yoshigahara.
As many puzzle enthusiasts are also fans of magic, International Puzzle Parties usually feature some magic component, often involving performances by magicians.
