- Titus Statilius Taurus
Titus Statilius Taurus was a Roman general and politician. He was a "consul suffectus" in
37 BC . In the war againstSextus Pompey he fought in Sicily and commanded a fleet sent byMarc Antony to Octavian's aid. After Pompey was driven from Sicily, Taurus crossed the sea toAfrica Province , which he secured without any difficulty and for which he was awarded a triumph in34 BC .In 34 BC he accompanied Octavian to
Dalmatia , and after Octavian's return toRome , Taurus remained in command of the troops stationed there. When war with Marc Antony andCleopatra VII broke out, Taurus choose Octavian's side and in theBattle of Actium he was in command of the land force drawn up on the shore. In29 BC he fought in Spain were he defeated the Cantabrians, Vaccaei and Astures. He was again made consul in26 BC . In16 BC when Augustus left Italy for Gaul he left Taurus in Rome as praefectus urbi.He was responsible for the construction of the
