Net Sözlük, categorized in "Collaborative Hypertext Dictionary", is a Turkish-language web page including humorous descriptions for various words, terms and even sentences. It is founded by Volkan Muhtar ("aka yalowa") and Uğur Akbıyık ("aka kanzap") being as an alternative to [http://www.nedir.net nedir.net] in the year 2005. Net Sözlük with “"power of the words"” as its motto, has “merhaba” as the entrance page, which means “hello” in Turkish.

Overview

In order to qualify as a member of Net Sözlük, a readership account has to be created, which is followed by adding 10 trial entries concerning the editing regulations of Net Sözlük. Afterwards, those trial entries will be checked by the web site administrators, who decide that the candidate is adequate to be a member of Net Sözlük or not. New account registration is active in all times. As of January 2008, it is possible for one to register as a 6th generation member. Many of its active members have left Net Sözlük following the “stroke” in November 2007, however the web site gathered back its strength quickly. Net Sözlük currently consists of glorified members contributing to literature. The members of the platform periodically organize meetings, called “assembly”. Net Sözlük, with continuously renewed web codes, is in active development and therefore it offers advanced options to its members. Renovated and improved apparatuses, including a chat platform, are to be used likely.

Although it is just been 2 years after its foundation and it does not have too many members, Net Sözlük has organized some charity work, too. [http://www.losev.org.tr LÖSEV] has been contacted and visited to get some information about the actions of the charity. One of the members of Net Sözlük took over all the education, health, nutrition and housing expenses of Ceyhun Özmen, a child with leukemia disease. Besides, dozens of books from different cities have been collected and sent to Şırnak İdil High School Library. Net Sözlük has a reputation with some rebellions in its history and its stolen web codes, which are used by many other dictionary platforms. Net Sözlük, with its server in [http://neu.netdirekt.de/c/cms/front_content.php?idcat=3&idlang=1 Germany] , is written in PHP and is the third most popular Turkish dictionary by Google [ [http://www.google.com/Top/World/T%C3%BCrk%C3%A7e/Kaynaklar/S%C3%B6zl%C3%BCkler/Kat%C4%B1l%C4%B1mc%C4%B1/ Google Dizin - World > Türkçe > Kaynaklar > Sözlükler > Katılımcı ] ] .
