Oyster magazine

Oyster is an Australian fashion and lifestyle magazine founded in 1994. It is a large-format, high quality glossy known for its innovative and edgy fashion and photography and is distributed throughout Australia, Europe, The U.S.A. and Asia.

Appealing to a young, high-income market, Oyster features original articles that focus on emerging and established fashion designers, artists, musicians and creative collectives. Each issue also includes one or two investigative, in-depth stories.

Oyster’s photography content is supplied through commissioned shoots as well as a large amount of submissions, which results in many international shoots being published featuring unknowns as well as recognised photographers, models and stylists.

Oyster is considered the voice of experimentation on the Australian fashion market, and has built up a large following because of its stunning editorial shoots and persistent backing of emerging talent. This focus on new ideas also comes out in the magazine’s creative art direction, which breaks from traditional magazine layouts in a number of ways.

In recent years, Oyster has also ventured online, with an interactive website, a collaboration with Myspace and the production of a web-based TV show called OysterVision. Unsurprisingly, Oyster’s web content has a younger target market.
