Gerald V. Casale (born Gerald Vincent Pizzute,
July 28 1948 ) is thebass guitar /synthesizer player, a vocalist, and one of the founding members (withMark Mothersbaugh and Bob Lewis) of the new wave bandDevo . Along with Mothersbaugh, who he met atKent State University , Casale co-wrote most of Devo's material (including the hitWhip It ), designed Devo's distinctive attire (including theEnergy Dome , plastic pompadours and yellow radiation suits) over the years with Mothersbaugh, and directed most of Devo's videos. He has also directed videos for other artists, includingA Perfect Circle ("Imagine") Rush ("Superconductor"), theFoo Fighters ("I'll Stick Around "),Soundgarden ("Blow Up the Outside World "), andSilverchair ("Freak" and "Cemetery"), among others.Casale is currently working on a solo project called
Jihad Jerry & the Evildoers , and during musical appearances in the summer of 2008 has indicated Devo is recording new materials for release to the public.Gerald Casale uses a right-handed
