- Gikeiki
The nihongo|"Gikeiki"|義経記 is a
Japan esegunki monogatari ("war-tale") that focuses on the legends ofMinamoto no Yoshitsune and his followers. Considered to have been composed during theNanboku-chō period , it has provided inspiration to numerousNoh ,kabuki andbunraku plays. Much of the image that people today have of Yoshitsune and those associated with him (Saito Musashibo Benkei andShizuka Gozen , for example) is considered to have been influenced by the "Gikeiki".The word "Gikeiki" literally means "The Record of Yoshitsune", but the "
on-yomi " of thekanji for his name are used in reading it aloud – "yoshi" ( _ja. ) is read as "gi", and "tsune" ( _ja. ) is read "kei".Overview
The emotions of the characters are often discussed and vividly described.
