- Kojo (singer)
Timo Kojo (born
Helsinki ,May 9 ,1953 ) is a Finnish pop rock singer. He started his recording career in 1977 when his band, Madame George, released their only album: "Madame George: What's Happening?"Kojo's first solo album, So Mean, was a hit in Finland. The second sold as well, though it was not considered quite as good. In 1981, his third solo album was a fiasco, so something new were to come. Enter to the Eurovision Song Contest!
In 1982 he represented his country with the entry "
Nuku pommiin " (Ban the Bomb!) a rock song with music byJim Pembroke and lyrics byJuice Leskinen ; the conductor wasOssi Runne . The song performed in Finnish was a protest againstnuclear bomb s and the danger of a nuclear war inEurope (TheCold War was still under way in 1982). Despite its pacifist message the song received no points ("nul points"). Despite this poor result, Kojo has continued his career in his native country.Kojo's music has not been very popular in Finland after 1982. But every Finn remembers him due to his entry at ESC.
