Promotion and relegation of 1992 season

Five new teams were accepted:
* FC Karachaganak
* FC Namys
* FC Dinamo
* FC Dostyk
* FC Yenbek

Three teams were relegated at the end of last season:
* FC Arman
* FC CSKA Almaty
* FC Metallist (Petropavlovsk)and
* "FC Kokshetau withdrew during this season"

Club name changes

At the start of season:

FC Arsenal SKIF became FC SKIF Ordabasy,

FC Aktau became FC Munaishy,

FC Uralets became FC Uralets-Arma,

FC Fosfor became FC Taraz,

FC Montazhnik became FC Yassi,

FC Zhetysu became FC Taldykorgan,

FC Traktor became FC Ansat,

FC Ekibastuzetc became FC Batyr,

FC Metallist (Zhezkazgan) became FC Yenbek

FC Zenith became FC Azhar

League Format

Originally planned 26 teams in total. But like the season earlier, one team withdrew during the season. This time it was FC Kokshetau. All its games were annulled. The competition was split into two stages. In first stage two groups of 12 and 13 teams were formed. In second stage the best six teams of each group joined together to play in a final group for positions 1 to 12. The rest of the teams played in a group for positions 13 to 25. Teams played against each other on home-away basis in their groups. Final standings of teams did not count the results of the first stage.

Pld = Matches played; W = Matches won; D = Matches drawn; L = Matches lost; GF = Goals for; GA = Goals against; GD = Goal difference; Pts = Points

* FC Dinamo was penalized with a technical loss 0:3 (game Namys 2:2 Dinamo)
* FC Ansat was penalized with a technical loss 0:3 (game SKIF 1:1 Ansat)
* FC Taraz replaced Kazakhstan Cup winner FC Dostyk as a runner-up in Asian Cup Winners Cup
