Johan August Ekman

Johan August Ekman (November 26, 1845-1913) was Archbishop of Uppsala, Sweden, 1900-1913.

He was a student at the University of Uppsala, and was ordained priest in that city 1873. Thereafter he worked as a vicar and held other church offices in Uppsala. He was married in 1882, elected professor of theology 1897 and bishop of Västerås in 1898; and entrusted with the post of archbishop in 1900.

He was known as a representative for a more modern Swedish Church.

Some of his published articles were (with the titles translated from Swedish) "The origins of Christian Priesthood" (1882), "Miracles and Spiritual Inspirations" (1883), "The Naturalistic Paganism" (1886-1888).
