Iain Coucher (b.1962, Yorkshire), is Chief Executive of
Network Rail , which he became in July 2007 following the retirement of Chief ExecutiveJohn Armitt . Previously, he was Chief Executive ofTube Lines , one of the infrastructure companies under the London Underground public private partnership.He was brought up in
Doncaster andLeeds , where his father worked for the electricity generating board, and originally wanted to be an RAF pilot.Iain attended Ashville College, a public boarding school in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. He boarded in Windermere House - part of Mallinson. Iain was a good tennis player and represented the school tennis team. Because of his French surname, he was nicknamed "Couche".
