"Everything" is a pop rock song written by Alanis Morissette for her sixth studio album (fourth internationally) "So Called Chaos". The song was released as the lead single early 2004 and was intended as a comeback single for the artist.

The song is most notable for having its first line altered for a radio edit. The opening line contained the word "asshole", but for the single and video it was changed to "nightmare". Chart performance

Though the song received top 5 peaks in Canada and on the Adult Top 40 radio, it failed to make an impact on any other significant charts. The song peaked at a low number 76 on the Hot 100 and number 36 on the Top 40 Mainstream. The relative failure of this single in the US led to her album failing to make the number one spot on the Billboard 200, though it debuted and peaked at number five.

Music video

The song's music video was released in January 2004, and features Morissette walking down a road. At the start of the video, her hair is long, but ends up being cut off to signify one of many changes in her life. For the rest of the video she is accompanied by a group of people.

The music video is based on and is almost identical to the video for the song "Bonito" by Spanish group Jarabe de Palo, with the same director, Marc Donés. The man that cuts her hair at the beginning of the video is Jarabe de Palo's lead singer, Pau Donés. Three of the people who were seen singing in her "Hands Clean" video also appear who are shown as her dedicated fans. The video peaked at #4 on the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown.
