Tangier is a popular Philadelphia-based American rock band active in the late 1980s and early 90s. The band released three albums with a few line-up changes having a sound somewhere in the middle of straight-up Hard rock to Glam Metal and Southern rock, this all making them somewhat a mixture of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Whitesnake.

Tangier formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in the clubs with bands such as Cinderella, who would later help the group out by having Tangier open for them on occasion. The first self-titled debut album, comprising Bill Mattson (vocals), Doug Gordon (guitar), Rocco Mazzella (guitar), Mike Kost (bass) and Mark Hopkins (drums), saw the band throwing AOR in the mix.

It wouldn't be until the follow-up "Four Winds", released some four years later with Gari Saint (guitar), Garry Nutt (bass) and Bobby Bender (drums), that the band finally received some recognition and a major label deal. It produced the hit singles "On The Line" and "Southbound Train".

For their third album "Stranded" there were some line-up changes again. Separating with both Mattson and Saint, the band brought in vocalist–guitarist Mike LeCompt. LeCompt's gruff soulful vocals brought a heavier edge to the band. This album produced the hit single "Stranded" featuring Pamela Anderson in its music video.
