The Waring School is a private liberal arts primary and secondary school in
Beverly, Massachusetts . Its unique dynamic centers around individual motivation and the desire to learn. It is fully bilingual, and every student is required to learn French in an immersion setting. [www.waringschool.org]Present
The Waring School has around 150 students. Studies outside of the classroom (specifically field trips and a large outdoor campus) are a notable part of the curriculum. Waring does not use the typical terms for school years, but instead the following terms:
CORE (6th and 7th grades)Group 1 (8th grade)Group 2 (9th grade)Group 3 (10th grade)Group 4 (11th grade)Group 5 (12th grade)
Other notable facts about Waring:Students do not raise their hands in class, but speak when they have something to share. Teachers are called by their first names, and classes are arranged in circles so everyone can see and talk to everyone else. This is to encourage discussion, and to put teachers and students on a more equal level.
History
The Waring School was founded by Philip and Josée Waring in 1972 under the name "La Petite Ecole." At the time, they were residents of
Rockport, Massachusetts .ports
As well as academics, the Waring School encourages a high level of competition in its Class D sports program, which consists of
soccer ,lacrosse andbasketball , as well ascross country ,yoga ,dance and a well-knowndrama program. The soccer program at Waring has been very successful, and the Boys' Varsity and Girls' Varsity teams have won several championships, including the 2006/2007 seasonNEPSAC Class D title.References
