Sitka Naval Operating Base and U.S. Army Coastal Defenses in Alaska was listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. Alternative or associated names are Sitka, the Causeway, and Mt. Edgecumbe School. When World War II began, this was one of the few bases ready to protect the North Pacific.
