Its seat is the village of Imielno, which lies approximately convert|12|km|mi|0 south-east of Jędrzejów and convert|36|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of the regional capital Kielce.

The gmina covers an area of convert|100.6|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 4,626.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Nida Landscape Park.
