The Tate family were a fictional family on the
ITV soap opera "Emmerdale ".About the Tates
The Tate family were introduced in 1989, at the same time that 'Farm' was dropped from "
Emmerdale "'s title, and were part of a more glamorous, "Dallas"-style feel to the soap. Self-made millionaire Frank and his young second wife Kim retired to the country as Frank handed over the reins of his haulage business to his son Chris. However Frank soon got bored of retirement and returned to help run the business, much to Chris's annoyance. Daughter Zoe meanwhile was at university studying to be a vet, and later set up her own practice. The Tates emerged as the leading family of the 1990s, and were involved in some of the show's most dramatic storylines. Frank became an alcoholic and died of a heart attack in front of Kim. Kim became a "superbitch" and faked her own death before returning only to finally flee the village in 1999. Chris lost the use of his legs in the Beckindale plane crash and eventually poisoned himself to frame his wife for murder, while Zoe came out as alesbian in the early 90s and went on to developschitzophrenia . In 2005 the last remaining members of the family, Zoe, Joseph and Jean, left the village. As a parting gift Zoe blew up the family home, Home Farm, which she had been forced to sell to theKing family .Family members
