Port of Sines

Port of Sines

The port of Sines is a deep water port, in Portugal, of natural depth -28 m, with specialized terminals that allow the movement of different types of goods. Besides being the main port in the iberian-atlantic coast, due to its geophysics characteristics, it is the main door for the energy supplies of Portugal, such as natural gas, coal, oil and its derivatives (General, 2007). Its construction began in 1973 and open in 1978. The port works 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, offering services, such as: control of sea traffic, pilots, tow and mooring, control of access and surveillance, drinkable water, accident/pollution safety, and repairs on board or on land (Port, 2007). The port of Sines is located 37º 57' of latitude North and 08º52' of longitude West at 58 sea miles South of Lisbon (Location, 2007).
